Migraine (including Vestibular Migraine)

Migraine Symptoms

Migraine symptoms commonly begin with a migraine aura, in the form of blurred vision, loss of visual field, inability to concentrate and tingling of the fingers. This may escalate to; throbbing pain on one or both sides of the head, sensitivity to light and sound, difficulty in speech (coherently constructing a sentence), nausea and vomiting, light headedness and fainting.

Vestibular Migraine Symptoms

Patients experiencing a vestibular migraine will have symptoms of dizziness, motion sickness, vertigo and disorientation. In collaboration with Vestibular physiotherapists and ENT surgeons we can assist with the alleviation of symptoms and causes of vestibular migraine.

Migraine Causes

The causes of migraine can include hormonal changes, stress, glare sensitivity, some foods and alcohol, visual muscle strain and work load.

How Can we help with Migraine?

For patients whose migraines are bought about by visual stress, including glare, strain and fatigue, it is possible that our optometrists can help.

These conditions are often correlated with close work, such as on a computer or screen, or with patients who work in a strong glare environment, such as outside or in heavily glassed offices.

Prescription lenses, tints and prisms have proved very helpful with many of our patients who suffer from migraines.
